Chinese Communication firm, Huawei has announced the launched of their ICT Skills competition in the country. The content will include university students around the nation who major in IT and networking courses.
The company has affirmed that the aim of the competition is to create a platform for students to showcase both their talent and apply theoretical knowledge. The competition will also expose them to new opportunities and trends in the digital community.
This is the second time the mobile making company has staged the competition. Last year’s activities attracted over 40,000 students. Who were from 32 countries and over 800 institutions globally. This time around, the competition has started nationally before proceeding to a global scale. The national finalists will be rewarded with prized laptops and smartphones, before taking off to China for the finals.

Zetech University has reported several of their students have signed up for the contests. Mr. Samuel Kinuthia, a lecturer at the university and Huawei Certified Academy Instructor, reported that ‘The students are also excited to take the Huawei Certified Network Associate (HCNA) after the competition, and they look forward to representing their institution in the finals.’ The second round of registration for the competition has been concluded, having taken place in Strathmore University in collaboration with iLab Africa and Riara University.
Su Shuqi, of Huawei Kenya, praised the country for being one of the leading countries in Africa for technology advancement and innovation. ‘It has some of the best technology infrastructures on the continent and is a fast adopter of new innovations.’Su Shuqi is the Training and Certification Manager of Huawei, Kenya.
The country has seen numerous activities on the part of Huawei’s ICT department who have been vigorous in their offerings in the talent ecosystem contribution. Through their ICT academy programs, with their major program ‘Seeds for the Future’ which was launched in 2014 in partnership with Kenya’s ICT Authority.
The final round of registration is taking place until August.
